Nuotrauka: Ignotas Nefas

Ignotas has been assigned as new Ricoh GR ambassador in Lithuania. He is a street photographer and graphic designer based in Vilnius. Street photography has been a passion for more than 10 years and Ignotas make sure to always bring his camera as a good shot can pop up in front of you anywhere and anytime.

"Beauty or an interesting composition can be seen even in the most boring places you pass every day and you don't even think to stop, the most important thing is to learn to see it", says Ignotas.

Q&A

  1. How did you start with photo/video?
Street, documentary and candid photography have always been my thing. It all started years ago with filming and taking pictures of skateboarding, but then I naturally moved on to shooting not just skateboarding but pretty much everything around me. That's how I found street photography.
  2. How would you describe your style?
I love observing the surroundings, being a fly-on-the-wall without disturbing or directing the scene, just shooting and moving on. That's why it is not boring to walk the same streets for 10 years, there's always an unique composition or timing opportunity everywhere.
  3. What inspires you?
Some of my biggest inspiration sources are Henri Bresson, Josef Koudelka, Ramūnas Danisevičius, Antanas Sutkus, the list goes on.
  4. What is your dream shoot or project?
To be able to shoot what I enjoy and see people enjoying it is a dream come true to me. One of my long-term goals is to release a photography album and have an exhibition.
  5. What is your best advice to others that want to develop as photographers?
Shoot every day and always keep the camera on you, learn to see things as if you're already looking through a lens. Pick a few fixed focal lengths and learn it so you know how it's going to look even before putting the camera to your eye.

What is in your bag?

  1. What is the most important in your bag?
As long as I have a camera with me, either it's digital or film, I'm good. If it's an everyday walk-around then I usually take a fast 50mm and a wide or a telephoto lens to accompany it.
  2. What bag do you use?
I used to use a Canon bag but lately I'm traveling light so I'm just using a regular Carhartt backpack.
